The re- tiring Iettermen were Wolfe. Cowan. Gregory. and Falkner. The squadmen were Baxter and Blackburn. Bahamian. Tate, Yeary, Moseley, and Ogle were the most promising freshmen 0f the season. Games were scheduled with good teams before the State meet in order to give the team experi- ence in competitive matches. Among the teams played were Weatherford Junior Col- lege. ACC. and the TCU Freshmen. Bill Couser and James Thweatt won the State doubles championship. Bill Couser and B. D. Smith represented Tarleton in singles and made a good showing. T's were awarded to Couser, N0. 1, Smith, No. 2, Thweatt, No. 3. and the Plowboy award was given to Frank Lambert, No. 4. Couser and Thweatt were elected co-captains for 1933. PROSPECTS FOR THE 1933 SEASON In 1933 Tllweatt and Lambert are the only old men back, but Rushing. Soper. and Craddock are very promising new material. They may carry off some honors this year. Out of about twenty players, Robinson was fourth and Cage was seventh. THE 1933 SEASON White is captain again this year. The other prospects are Jim Cage, Tommy Hughston, and Ed Arcenaux. White has been shooting good golf this Spring. having broken the Stephenville course record twice. The first time he had a 67. The second time he shot a 31, whivh was the nine-hole record, and a 35 for a total of 66. Later he shot a 30 to break his own record on nine holes. On that day he was seven under par on twenty-seven holes. The same day Cage had a 36 and a 39 for a total of 75. At present, for the 1933 season, Cage seems to have second place, having defeated both Hughston and Areenaux. He has been shooting fairly consistent golf and has had experience in tournament play. Cage was a regular squad man all last year. Hughston and Arcenaux will battle for third place. However. the loser will also play in the college tournament this year, as the team consists of four players. Hughe- ton has played the Stephenville course several times, but Arveuaux has had little chance to show his ability. It is around these two that Coach Wisdom expects to build his 1934 team. White and Cage scored a double victory at the Texas Junior College Athletic Association Meet in Ft. Worth on May the second. White won the Individual First Place. and White and Cage together won the Team First Place. Making a satisfactory schedule was no funny incident for most of us. . Students were still coming in by dozens. They were registering as fast as they could manage to scramble in and out several doors. Classes started with a clash. What humiliation and embarrassment some stu- dents experienced; for instance. a boy met a girls! clothing class, another bought a Purple Book, and still another asked the way to the business oRice after he had paid his fees for registration. They were freshmen indeed, but they wnn't be next year. . Every student enjoyed an evening of entertainment given by the churches of the town. The Student-Faculty Reception in Hunewell Park was the outstanding event of the first semester. It was fun to try to match oneis number and try to find the right. kind of a partner. . O.W.L.S. had a party. . Poor little Les Lunettes were initiated. They had on their generous share of grease. The first real pep meeting of the year roused a wonderful response. We all woke up to find Hughston, Elam, Kelly and Sansing the new yell leaders. Sensing was the Hell-yead leader. The first game of the season was tied with ACC 0n Hays Field with a score of six and six. The 5.0.5. were initiated with plenty of red paint and gloves. John Lomax read his Cowboy Poems for the first lyL-eum entertainment of the year. Defeated! The Plowboys played a hard game. but they were defeated by Weath- erford Junior College. October . Miss Lillard presented her first entertainment in the auditorium. We liked the way Fish Black made love. Mrs. Moody entertained the girls in the Dump with a dance. This time Ranger Junior College was defeated. Dean Davis said we had a bum shirt tail parade. The ghosts, goblins and witches gathered with the fairies in the gym for a party. Dear Miss Long: If you remember. on the Suh-Deb Page in the August issue of the Girlsi Magazine, you described a typical roommate. You said that she would be an attractive girl. well dressed, intelligent, a good listener, and a good conversationalist. You said that she would be a girl with whom it was easy to get along, and that after a few months we should be as intimately acquainted as sisters. With these ideas in mind. I went to college and began living with my roommate. Miss Long, you were right. My roommate is attractive; she is too attractive. As soon as I introduce her to any one of my boy friends, he hardly waits until I am out of sight to ask her for a date. She says that she is sorry, but she cannot hurt his feelings by refusing to go with him. She also says that she would not do it ifI had no other boy friends, but that is very little consolation. She is well dressed, I must admit. She can afford to dress nicely because she has. as well as her own clothes, the choice of the best of mine. I should not object if I could wear hers in return, but her nicest clothes never seem becoming to me. I can not ask her not to wear my clothes. because she freely offers me the use of hers at all times. Yes. Miss Long. she is intelligenti If she were not intelligent, she could not so cleverly persuade me to help her with her studies when I have no time to spare. She congratulates me on the good grade I made on my last test and asks me to ex- plain a certain part of the lesson, since she cannot seem to understand it. What can I do but help her when she makes such an appeal? She is a good listener and a good conversationalist, in a sense. In class she can listen to the lecture and learn the lesson perfectly without ever opening her book in preparation. and she can discuss for five minutes any question in such a way that the professor never realizes she knows nothing at all about it. Then. too, when she is talking with a boy, she can listen to him sympathetically and repeat his words with a slight change so that he feels he has at last found a girl who understands him. It is really quite an art that she has acquired. She is easy to live with chiefly because she manages to get her way all the time: therefore she is pleased with me and with everything around her. I should not let her be so selfish it she did not convince me that I want just what she wants. She is much more intimately acquainted with me than I am with her. She can begin a personal conversation with some experiences of her own. and before I am aware of what I am doing I have revealed to her all my experiences and emotions on the subject. My conclusion is that she is just too clever. Miss Long. in view of all this which 1 have told you.
