Head J. V. Football Coach Matt Fisher. This has not been a year for football at Hoggard. As our Varsity team battled, so did the J. V.’s, but with a little more success. The Varsity Club, prone with injuries and second-half let-downs, struggled to a 1-9 record with the bright spot coming over Kinston 29-7. Another bright spot in the season was the rushing of George Jackson. Jackson raced for 916 yards in 184 carries. This was one of the best rushing records around. The Baby Vikings finished the season with a 4-5 record, not representative of their potential. Our stingy defense proved worthy all year, posting 4 shut-outs. They allowed only 70 points all season, a little more than 7 points a game. While the defense was doing “their thing,” the offense, directed by Frank Kosh, ran up a total of 142 points, more than twice the points of their opponents. Schwinn fights for more ground. 209
