King barks out the signals. Sept. 3, New Bern: New Bern spoiled the Viking home opener with an early TD, on a rain-soaked field. Sept. 10, Wilson: It seems as if Wilson never loses. Outclassing Hoggard, they rolled to a 29-0 halftime margin and added three TD’s in the second half. Sept. 17, Smith: It was too good to be true. JTH led 3-0. Then every thing returned to normal with Smith taking an easy 35-3 rout. Sept. 24, West Carteret: On the road in Morehead City, Tim Atwood grabbed an aerial from Steve King tor the first Viking TD all season. Victory No. | !! Oct. |, Hanover: The Wildcats made it four in a row in the crosstown rivalry in the mud at Legion Stadium. When does basketball season start? Oct. 8, Kinston: The Vikings rebounded from the previous week's demoralizing setback, and Hoggard smashed Kinston 21-0. Victory No. 2 !! Oct. 15, Santord: After sputtering to a 21-0 deficit at intermission, Hoggard woke up in the second half, but fell short 21-13. Oct. 22, Sanderson: In a homecoming battle under the sun, Hoggard managed a scoreless deadlock with highly-rated Sanderson. Oct. 29, Reid Ross: Unable to establish a running attack all season, the Vikings gained 17 yards on the ground, but were in the game anyway until the third quarter. Then Ross broke away with four touchdowns. Nov. 5, Jacksonville: Hoggard concluded a disap- pointing autumn with a ho-hum 38-0 loss to Jackson- ville.
