whe i Student Council meets during the summer to plan the coming school year. Orientation conducted to introduce all newcomers to the various opportunities at Hoggard. Eager sophomores survey their new surroundings. September the first. Cars are backed up for over half a mile, each bringing in students to be branded with public education. The first day of school is an experience akin to being inducted into the army. You get in-spected, de-tected, sus-pected, re-jected, and or e-jected. You receive enrollment cards, insurance cards, library cards, and schedule cards. You shed the tank top, put on long pants, shod the feet— Reporting for duty, Ma’am! During the first weeks you get used to the hassle, find a good, legal place to park, learn when you have time to grab a smoke, and learn how to dodge underclassmen. And everything begins to settle into a distinct familiarity.
