Hoggard’s varsity tennis team attained conference status in this, their second year of existence. Big coach D. C. Dickens anticipated a better season in 1970 than 1969 and outlined his winning strategy in long practices after school. Included were matches with Goldsboro, Kinston, Jacksonville, and the tough match with the New Hanover Wildcats, who are conference favorites this year. Jerry Jacobs, Mike Taylor, Ricky Pridemore, and Robbie Hayes made the backbone of the Viking tennis team. Showing better form with the passing of each year, Hoggard’s netters should develop into a first-rate power in the near future. Netters enter conference Jerry Jacobs bears down on the ball...
