Color Guard The Color Guard is perhaps the most important unit in any NJROTC battalion. Its members spend many long hours practicing and drilling. Besides marching with the battalions, the Color Guard also performs with the drill team at each of its functions and presents the colors for school assemblies and local civic organizations. The Color Guard participates in the dedication of the Cape Fear River Bridge. The Battalion marches in the Armistice Day parade. = 152 Activities Certain units participate in many activities during the school year. These include performances at beauty pageants, field trips aboard the USS SHRIKE and USS McCULLOCH, and marching in the Homecoming, Christmas, and Azalea parades. sees

United States Ships The USS SHRIKE, a USN minesweeper, has provided several educational cruises for the cadets. Certain cadets are chosen for each cruise, which leaves early Saturday morning and returns Sunday afternoon. While on the cruise, the cadets are given firsthand experience with the ship's operation. The USS McCULLOCH, a Coast Guard Cutter stationed at Wilmington, gave the cadets and sponsors a tour of the ship and served them the = © | evening meal on the mess deck. Chief Hess and Cadet M.
