The 1968-69 Hoggard basketball squad compiled Vikings Compile an excellent record of 18 wins and only two losses. This was a tremendous jump from the 12-10 ¢ record of the previous year. After being defeated Dmpeessive Record in their first two games, the Vikings ae roaring back to reel off 18 straight impressive victories. In the season opener the Vikings met cross- town rival New Hanover. Unsure of their attack and best lineup, the Vikings fell to the more experienced Wildcats, 66-51. Playing in Morehead City, the Vikings were defeated by West Carteret, 72-63. The outlook for the season was dismal, but things would change. On their home floor for the first time, the Vikings rolled over the Jacksonville Cardinals, 62-46. Beginning to look impressive, the Vikings dropped Wilson, their second straight 4A foe, 74-57. These two classy victories may have given the Vikings the jolt they needed to spur them to their 18 game win streak. Burgaw next fell to Hoggard, 100-67, as the Vikings hit the century mark for the first time in school history. A Holiday Tournament in Brogden Hall was next on the Hoggard schedule. On consecutive nights, the Vikings downed 4A foes— Williams of Burlington and Edwards of Asheville, 69-63 and 67-64, respectively. These two impressive victories built up the steadily growing Viking momentum. Jacksonville fell to Hoggard again 57-53, and the Vikings extended their streak to seven games when they slaughtered Coach Hebbe is pleased with season results. . . Swansboro 80-40. Raleigh Sanderson fell to the Vikings 81-56 as Hoggard stood at the half way mark with an 8-2 record. Pat Lewis puts one up...

NOT Castecn Cage Power Opening up the second half of the season, the Vikings went by Scotland of Laurinburg, 54-49. In a revenge bout, the Vikings dropped West Carteret, 68-60, and were on top of a 10-game win streak. Fayetteville Ross fell to the mighty Vikings, 88-56, and Burgaw was easily rolled over again, 78-46. The Swansboro Pirates proved easy prey as Coach Hebbe’s boys stomped them for the second time, 83-40. stomped was easily overcome in the second encounter, and they went down, 82-45. 4A opponent Wilson was dropped in Wilson, 57-34, and the Viking record stood at 15-2 with three games left. Sanderson fell 91-70, and Lejeune was rolled over, 80-46. In their final game, the Vikings slaughtered Fayetteville Ross, 94-48, and finished | the season with a superb record of |8 wins Mike Callahan on a drive... and two loses.
