Zs % Hoggard bench-ready for action Defense Proves Rugged Ken Brock, most valuable player, shows exceptional running ability. 101 As a whole, the second Hoggard football squad was strong and was improving rapidly as the season closed. An exceptional showing against New Hanover High in the first gridiron clash of the two schools and a crowd pleasing 20 to 6 homecoming victory over Fayetteville Ross were high points of the 1968 campaign. Selected by their teammates for postseason Awards were Ken Brock, most valuable player, and Leonard Temoney, most improved player. Several returning lettermen along with graduates from Hoggard’s first JV football squad will return to lead the Vikings in the 68 gridiron campaign. With 4A status finally attained, the Vikings should be ready to meet their demanding schedule next year.

The first Hoggard-New Hanover football game, long awaited by local football fans, resulted in a hard fought battle which saw the Vikings edged by the Wilcats, 19 to 6. Next, powerful Raleigh again overpowered the Vikings, 19 to 0. Beginning to play up to their potential, the Vikings downed Burgaw, 9 to 0. Still looking strong, the Vikings pleased a large homecoming crowd with a stunning 20 to 6 victory over mighty Fayetteville Ross. Wilson, a contender for state 4A title honors, closed the Vikings season by downing them in Wilson, ZOmtOROS “Run off right tackle,” orders Hardy. Sporadic Play Waths Season Touchdown... .
