They are a very necessary part ot any smooth-running institution, even though they rernain inconspicuously in background. lohn Swett is well known tor its immaculate buildings and groundsg this fact proves the eif1c1ency of the stage hands. Broadway productions have their angels who turnish tinanczal packing, and lohn Swett has its Parent-Teacher Association, which provides niany bene- fits tor the student body. The activities ot the organization are varied, but all have as their obiective closer cooperation between the horne and the school. This year's president is Mrs. David Rike, and the tnerne for the current year is Know Your School. We came to lohn Swett in the fall of '48 as green and overwhelmed fresh- men. We didn't accomplish much that year except to get acquainted, and learn a little about high school life. That year we were advised by Mr. Phillips. The next year we came back as confident sophomores. That year we really became organized as a class. We had our first class dance, the Sophomore Hop, with a circus theme. We also began building ever necessary class funds with cake and hot dog sales. In '50 we broke through the upper crust. We were iuniors, upperclassmen! That year Mr. Eyre became our adviser, and under his guidance we continued our activities. We had the Iunior Prom, our first formal dance, with the theme, It Happens Every Spring. We also presented the Iunior Variety Show, Whats Next, under the direction of Mr. Beck. This year, our last in lohn Swett, we came back as high and mighty seniors. In September we started working on the Warrior, with Miss Williams, our adviser, guiding us and making sure we met our deadlines. ln November we presented the Senior Play, Men Are Like Streetcars, under the direction of Miss Keyes, and in May had our last dance, the Senior Ball. ln Iune we shall end our high school career with the Senior Pageant on graduation night. Only one veteran, Ray Vallejo, remained on the Varsity, and Iohn Mclntosh was the only B player left to move up to the A squad. During the league season the Varsity scored as rnany points as the league winner, Albany. However, the defense proved a sieve, and most games were lost by a ten to nineteen-point margin. The Varsity, atter numerous losses, man- aged to defeat the Alhambra Bulldogs by a 58 to 52 score. The B team improved with the season and succeeded in winning tour out ot the tinal six games. Robert Colombo and Larry Castagnetti were outstanding players. Robert Colombo was chosen tor All-County honors, and Ray Valleio made the second Varsity AlleCounty team. t A SQUADJ FIRST ROW, leh to riqht: Ioe Omar, Harold Reese, lim Thornes, Ray Valleio, Henry Benavidez, Don Anqotti, Iohnnie Mclntosh. The strength is in the key positions with loel Heckrrianri and George Serpt: serving as the rnourid artists. Gordon Winship is on the receiving end. Ray Va.- leio and Dick Zanppa torm a strong keystone cornrinatiori as good as any in time league. Babe Di Maggio has been rnoved to first. Arnold Vallec appears to r e a strong candidate tor the hot corner. ln the field, Ed Turner, Perry Darris, Vince DiMaggio, Ed Palacio, Don Cruce and Larry Castagnetti should patrol the outer garden. The question rnark is the hitting ability of all candidates. Frorn the nine :rits the team rnaoe in the first game with the strong Valleio l-ligh squad, it ar pears that the boys will produce base lcnoclcs.
