With the majority of the Stennis ' Battlegroup moored two deep, the US Navy, was heavily presented. On the other side of the pier the Royal Singapore Navy had several of their powerful -lard ships and submarines. Set as a picket line of defense around the entire pier were dilapidated J ships of all shapes and sizes, flanked by 50 caliber machine gun I mounts and mortar positions. The bus ride from the newly erected Changi Pier into the heart of downtown offered views of a tropical paradise. There were tours to , . .J ' ' the Singapore Zoo, Sentosa Island, the Jurong Bird Park, and the ■ i a«Chinese Gardens.
