State Championship Taken By Reagan Raiders JOHNNY KLEINERT LEAVES the Cougars behind as he runs for the final T.D. ABILENE COUPER SCRAMBLES for more than just the ball. DONALD EALEY is too fast for the Cougars. ABILENE COOPER ... Greater joy has never been felt than the joy that the Raiders felt on December 16, 1967. Although Cooper was chosen to win the game by 18 points, Reagan High School won the Texas State Championship Title for 1967. The No. 1 rated Cougars fell to the victorious Raiders by a breathtaking score of 20-19. Thousands of Raider fans endured the near-freezing temperature and the drizzling rain to watch a game which can be called the greatest in Raider history. At half time, the Raiders trailed by a margin of 19-7, and it looked as if all the predictions were going to come true. In the second half, the Raiders scored two touch- downs to make the score 20-19. The Cougars were on the 1-yard line on the final play of the game, but the mighty Raiders gathered all strength and held | the Cougars. The final score ... 20-19- NEIL WALKER WATCHES intently at the Abilene Cooper game.
