Sweetheart Election Climaxes Industrial Arts Year The Industrial Arts Club is composed of students who are interested in widening their knowledge in this technological age. The students are concerned with tools, materials, experimentation and proces- ses of industry. As a project for the year, the club spent several months working on a basketball foulboard with an electric lighting system. The club also attended an Industrial Arts contest at Texas A M in the spring. One of the honors the club received during the year was having their own president, Don Parker, elected state sergeant-at-arms, and national vice-presi- dent. Members of the Distributive Education Club get first hand experience of on the job training. This is helpful in that they can go to school and get experience toward a job in the future. Students in the club remain half of each day in school and the other half at work. Besides taking required academic courses at school, they also take a D.E. classroom course in math and English, selling techniques, good customer service and correct busi- ness behavior; this is a requirement for being a member to the club. The club’s main activity for the year was the annual Sweetheart Dance held in the Reagan Cafe- teria. Reagan’s sweetheart was Miss Gloria Tietje.
