Yes it hardly seems possible that in a few days we the class of 1949 will be graduating from McCaskey High School lt seems only yesterday that we as lonely sophomores entered this mstltution of learnmg During that year we were impressed wi h our msignificance as sophomores usually are and d1d not take part 1n so many activities However we d1d assume our share of responsibility m the mtramural program Even then some of our names appeared on the rolls of the band the orchestra and the glee club Scholastically our class had a f1ne representation on the honor roll As the Junior year rolled around we became more active partlcipants After the first few weeks of our 1un1or year representatives were chosen to represent each homeroom and a class council was formed The members of th1s council mformed their respectlve groups of the things under consideration by the executive committee so that fewer after school meetings of the entire class were requ1red Officers elected to lead our class were Iere Daum pres1dent Iaquelme Ge1Sl vice president Ruth Snyder secretary Earl GYISSIHQSI' treasurer and Patricla Gehman historlan The gardenia was selected as the class flower Maroon and white were chosen as our colors Knowledge comes but wisdom lmgers appealed to most of our members and was selected from a number of suggestions as our official motto When our SGHIOF year f1nally arrived we were happy at the thought of bemg seniors but we regretted that our h1gh school days were so near an end This year of course was the year for us to take a leading part 1n every organization in the school We elected Fredr1c Stoner as president to be ably assisted by Rlchard King vice president Mildred Martm secretary and Nancy George treasurer ln the fall we turned our attention to the football team which d1d a fme Job under the d1rect1on of two new coaches Smce it was the tenth anniversary of McCaskey Pride and as the annual play The social commlttee under the capable leadershlp of Nancy Dougherty and Robert Ulmer sponsored many successful school dances Erla Schmid was elected as our Hallowe en Queen lere Daum and Mildred Martin were the presidents of the Student Council and the National Honor Society respectively Both of these groups received spe cial mention for the1r outstanding work durmg the year The malority of our assemblies were sponsored by these two orgamzations Among some of the activities which hrghhghted the hohday season were the annual Christmas concert and the Senior Christmas Program ln the field of sports basketball swimming and wrestlmg all ranked high durmg the mid wmter season For the first time 1n the hlstory of McCaskey Hlgh School two school plays were produced the second bemg The Divine Flora This gave the students pC1I'l1ClpGl1I'1g m two plays a chance to receive a special award Spring came very quickly brmgmg with it tennis track and other sports the band orchestra and glee club concerts The Vidette with Louise Rosser as editor m chief did a fme Job reportmg school activities and had more than the usual number of subscribers This year the Vidette gained a new honor never before awarded to our paper the coveted Medalist Award the highest honor given to a school newspaper by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association The cllmax of our sen1or year finally bring class day the senior prom and commencement the highest pomt for us up to this time These are all pleasant memories that w1ll linger throughout our lives Whatever course we pursue all of us will continue our education m one way or another Some will do this by going on to mstitutrons of hrgher learning while others will enter di rectly mto a posrtlon in which they hope for an opportunity to attam success but what ever we do or wherever we go we must not stop learnmg W1th this thought in mind let us hope that McCaskey High School will always be as proud of us as we shall be of our Alma Mater PATRICIA GEHI AAN Hrstorran 0 l .7 'il M, W.
