Neverthe- less, bilge divers have managed to invade nearly every port that was visited by the shlp: After we left Pearl, you could always tell the direction of Yokosuka by the way Sherrill sniffed the breeze when he was on deck. Despite boiler casualties and a few gallons of fuel oil on deck, we steamed into port on time. Grim spoke for everybody when he said uCan,t understand the fuss over five gallons on the deck when we put 60,000 gallons in the tanks. We left Yokosuka with five bar anchored off Iwakuni for a few days to help the Divisionts people-to-people program. We lett Iwakuni bound for Sasebo, and arrived needing sleep and one-inch tube plugs. The end result was that we got underway on time as usual. The next stop was Hong Kong. Nearly everybody had good liberty, particularly Clark after he got word of his new baby.
