DRC WENTY-Fl E I i I K l CAPTAIN W. E. VVALLACE, USN William Edward Wallace was born in Wilmington, Delaware on 5 December 1916, son of Mr. L. A. Wallace and MIS- Nellie Wallace. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engneering. Upon graduation in June 1937, he was commissioned from the NROTC as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. After graduation, he joined the General Electric Company and, being a member of the Active Naval Reserve, partici- pated in cruises on the USS TATTNALL and USS WYOMING. In May 1941, he was ordered to active duty aboard the USS WEST POINT. There his duties were successively Electrical Officer, M A Division OfHcer and Navigator. In October 1944, Lieutenant Commander Wallace reported to the USS DICKENS as Executive Officer. Aboard the DICKENS he participated in the assaults on IWO JIMA and OKINAWA. This was followed by a tour of duty as Com- manding Officer of the USS BRISCOE. In early 1946 he transferred to the regular Navy as a Commander and was in command of the USS HONOLULU from March to June 1946. A tour of duty at the General Line School in Newport as an instructor was followed by a year at the U. S. Naval War College. . Returning to the fleet, he assumed command of the USS DYESS in July 1949 for a two year tour of duty. This waS followed by three years of postgraduate work in Nuclear Engineering Effects, one year at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, and two years at the University of California in Berkeley, as a result of which he earned the Degree of Master of Bioradiology. In July 1954, he reported to the Staff of Commander SEVENTH Fleet as Assistant Plans and Special WeapO11S Officer, and two years later was transferred to the He d t f th D f A ' S A f d t HS Chief of the Technical Staff for the ARGUS Experimeaiitiiluar ers O 6 e ense mmm upport gency or u Y Prom September 1959 to July 1960, Captain Wallace commanded the USS POLLUX based in Yokosuka, Japan, f0l' lowed by duty on the Joint Staff of Commander in Chief, Pacific, as Head of the Logistic Coordination. On 30 August 1963, he relieved Captain C. R. Johnson as Commander Destroyer Squadron TWENTY FIVE. Captain Wallace's present address is 7A Somoa Place, Honolulu, Hawaii. LCDR William HOW3fd Hawkins, USN Executive Officer, USS John S. McCain CDL-35 Lieutenant Commander Willian H. Hawkins was born 16 September 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His Naval career began when he enlisted in the Navy in February 1943. He served as a hospital corpsman until November of 1944 when he entered the Navy V-12 Office Candidate program. He attended Dubuque University and Northwestern University until May of 1946 when he was honorably discharged and returned to civili- an life to complete his education. After graduation from Phillips University in 1948 he received a comission as ENSIGN, and returned to active duty in December 1950. From 1951 to 1961 he served in various billets ashore and aiioat and was Operations Officer on the USS TOPEKA CCLG-SD for the two years prior to reporting to MCCAIN in May of 1963 as Executive Ofncer. Lieutenant Commander Hawkins is married to the former Delores Anne Allen of Ardmore, Oklahoma. They have two daughters, Cheryl Anne, age 16 and Paula Denise, age 11 and are presently residing in Honolulu, Hawaii.
