March I96I ..... Ll DERWAY A light' rain fell as Tuesday, 7 March l96l, dawned on the clouds covering the volcanic peaks at Ohau. Not many people were stirring early that morning at Pearl Harbor. Yet, there was much activity at Bravo 24 where MC CAIN was tied up. Some, not having left home yet, were busying themselves and preparing to say good-bye, for they would not be back again for six months. Aboard ship, members of the crew were preparing to get urlderway. With anticipation, many looked forward to the cruise to WestPac. Families and friends came aboard for coffee and a last farewell for those they know so well. All too soon wives, children, and friends were standing ashore, the officers and crew were aboard, and the word was passed The Officer of the Deck is shifting his watch to the bridge. Leis, kissess, and good-byes were not yet memories as all lines were cast off and we were underway to . . . . As we get underway and steam toward Papa Hotel Out of Pearl harbor, past Papa Hotel, and on our way to WestPQc
