The Jennings Foundation presented John Marshall with a grant which supplied the school with a career computer, art supplies for bulletin boards, and money for field trips, books and magazines concerning various careers. The first major activity was the career contest. The contest was held the second and third weeks in January. The object was to match the teacher with the job he she had outside of the teaching field. About thirty-eight teachers participated. Students were able to pick up applications in homeroom. The winner would be the student with the greatest number correct in matching. There were 1st. 2nd. and 3rd place prizes. The contest was organized by the contest committee of the career club and was developed to get students to recognize that most people hold more than one job in their life.
