Your high school experience is only the initial qualification for an interesting and personally profitable participation in the activities of the world of tomorrow. Miss Fogarty Hard work, dedication, perseverence, and ability to communicate with students are some of the characteristics which might describe an outstanding teacher. These same words describe Miss Mary Fogarty, a JMH music teacher the last 15 years who was transfered to Lincoln-West this year. Miss Fogarty has touched the lives of many JMH students as she initiated five new vocal musical groups within the music department. One teacher remakred that Miss Fogarty has .. endless energy in perfecting good, solid musical performances for the students and faculy. Dedicated to excellance. Miss Fogarty is currently director of the All City Choir, a group which brings together the best in the system for performances throughout the city. Although Miss Fogarty has a wide range of interests, her life has been . . . and will always be ... centered around the sounds of music. Her dedication as a teacher of music and her love of students are greatly missed this year. Having the privilege of knowing and working with Miss Fogarty has been a fortunate experience for many of us . . . “Miss Fogarty-—we will miss you.” 3 Joseph 3ahen Drafting Frances Baron Honors English Eleanor Bauer AP Biology Linda Beebe Physical Education Anne Belone Advanced Clothing Vicki Bettis Special Education George Bl.ey Omcr Blackman Bookkeeping Music 4 Irene Boozer Algebra Wiliam Brashwitz Physical Education August Cafguire AP European rtstory Ruth Coburn Jcb Development Thanks . . . Mr. Jacobson Miss Baran The senior prom, graduation exercises, and other activities make the senior year one of the most enjoyable and meaningful years in a student's life. Putting together these activities is nc osy tasktask-----it takes special people like JMH senior class advisors Mr. John Jacobson and Miss Frances Baran to accomplish this. Many long and arduous hours are spent preparing for the actual graduation exercises. Mr. Jacobson and Miss Baran handle much of the behind the scenes work for the prom and commencement. They see to it that a lot of the detailed work gets done...many seniors don't realize that. remarked a colleague. During their years as senior class advisors, Mr. Jacobson for 12 years ano Miss Baran for 8 years, have initiated the senior class T-shirt and hold- ing graduation exercises outside. WhSe they spend much of their time with the seniors, each has other duties at John Marshall. Mr. Jacobson teaches O.W.E. and has coached football and basketball. Miss Baran teaches English and has been the yearbook advisor The job of senior class advisor requires a tremendous amout of time and effort which frequently goes unnoticed. As one senior class officer said, “In the organization of the senior class activities. Mr Jacobson and Miss Baran have not only been helpful, but have shown a great deal of enthusiasm in the success of the senior class. Dr. Locke When Dr. Carl Locke tells his students to get on the stick” he means it. A demanding-yet fair- teacher, he expects much from his students and is more than willing to help them when needed. His classes are tough but his students recognize that they will be well prepared for college. As one student noted, By his method of teaching, you know that you are genuinely learning something.” Dr. Locke has visually displayed his sincere interest in the students by attending many of the basketball and football games. Over the years his scouting reports of the opposing teams have been a tremendous help to both the football and basketball teams. During the years he has coached football, J.V. basketball, and track. An excellent singer. Dr. Locke is a vocalist in his church choir and at JMH faculty gathering where the singing of golden oldies is a must. In his spare time. Dr. Locke plays golf and goes camping. He is the chairman of the Board of Deacons at the 2nd Calvary Baptist Church. A John Marshall faculty member for M years and Science Department chairman for the last 2 years. Dr. Locke is qualified to teach physics, chemistry, and biology. In the classroom and out he treats his students like ladies and gentlemen and he wants them to achieve success in everything they do. Mrs. Nixon frequently spends extra hours working for and with students who have the ability, the desire, and the qualifications to attend college. As one gracious student replied. Mrs. Nixon will go out of her way to see that you receive some form of financial assistance to college. Several years ago, Mrs. Nixon was a guidance counselor at John Marshall, In addition to her present duties here, she serves as the president of the Lakewood Library Board and is involved with the state library board. An interest in students is a family affair in Mrs. Nixon's household as her husband is the track coach at Lakewood Senior High School. Mrs. Nixon is described by co-workers and students alike as being helpful, inspirational. and one who takes a deep personal interest in the students. Mrs Nixon is a faculty member who has a special relationship with the college bound seniors of John Marshall. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed by our senior class. Thank you Mrs. Nixon. You may feel since this is your last year of high school you have reached your learning capabilities, but that's not true. This last year of high school is the beginning for all of us. whether we continue in college or go out into the business world. I hope you will all reach your desired goals in life. I would personally like to commend you for your strong support and tremendous effort you have provided in helping to achieve our goals here at John Marshall. This is the first official class of desegregation.everything began with us. We have proven to the Office of Desegregation, the Board of Education, and the School Administration that the class of '82' can cope with desegregation and unify as one. You may feel excited that your last year, of high school is finally here, but when you become doctors, lawyers, or whatever your field of interest may be you will look back at the good times and maybe the bad times that we all shared together. Just think, in a short five to ten years we will rejoin and become as one again, for our class reunion. In these five to ten years we will all A R I S E to the occasion to demonstrate our best abilities. Sincerely yours. Vickie White-President Class of ‘82' 35 Charles Abrams Patricia A Alton Traci J. The 1981-82 Varsity Basketball season was a rebuilding year for our Lawyers. With only three players returning from last year's varsity team, this year's team, though inexperienced. provided many thrill for their fans. The starting five players were: George Rucker (center). Paul Henry and John Hill (forwards), and John Hopkins and Luther Jones (guards). The team captains were seniors Andre DiMatteo and John Hopkins, and junior John Hll. Every member of the team contributed to this season's success including seniors Steve Zacharias and Wilbert Crawford. John Hill and John Hopkins made the All South Senate Team while John Hill was voted the Cleveland PresStar Player of the week. The highlight of the season came in the upset overtime victory over J.F.K. With three seconds left, and the Lawyers trailing by one point, senior Luther Jones hit a jump shot from 20 feet to give Marshall the win. J.M.H.'s victory ended the Eagles chances to be the South Senate Champions. In his first year as the varsity basketball coach Ron Alpine had a productive and rewarding season and sees a bright future for next year's team.
