Faces of the survivors We came to this school as sophomores, ready to enter a new world of friends and learning experiences Instead, we were greeted by utter chaos, confusion and closed doors m a year when the Cleveland Teachers Union decided to strike. . Being dazed and confused over the situation, we had to go along with the strike, and therefore lost a whole month and a half of school. School finally opened and went on as it normally had in the past, until we were informed of an extened school year, with a loss of holiday vacations. In our junior year, although we lost the bulk of our class to the Class of '80 in the form of early graduates, we continued to struggle and survive as a unified body: through the dawn of the busing era and the dusk of an eleven week school strike. Despite the setbacks v e continued to fight back . . . eager to learn and eager to succeed. Busing continued, and it accounted for the fact that the start of our senior year was delayed for three weeks. But we remained as one. with a great feeling of unity within us. We were destined to make the Class of '81 the best John Marshall had ever seen. We may not have been the biggest senior class this school has ever had. but in some cases quality certainly is better than quantity. One would have to say we were probably the strongest class ever to graduate from Marshall. We survived all the slings and arrows the people could throw at us; including the initial phase of busing and the longest strikes in school history. We. as a unified team, will be better equipped to endure the tensions and hardships after high school. We are saying goodbye to John Marshall in this year of 1981. but we are leaving this great school a little stronger and a little wiser knowing that ... WE SURVIVED! • I’m no longer a Fighting Eagle, but I'm now proud to say I'm a lawyer? Arthur Card knows what it means to work hard play hard, and survive. The Lawyers finished the season with a 2-6-2 mark. 10
