John Marshall High School 3952 West 140 Street Cleveland, OH 44 111 We have pride. A question, a statement, a boast, a joke, or a battle cry — pride is what you make it. In our years at Marshall it has been most often a question. We have pride? In what? PRIDE in our studies and academic achievements ... in our athletics ... in our band v . in our school plays ... in the accomplishments of our fellow students ... in the friendships we made here ... in saying I graduated from John Marshall. Our football team taught us about pride while we were here by setting a goal and by achieving it. Finally, if we have no conscious pride in what we have been or in what we are, we can still have pride when with our roses and diplomas in our hands we can look ahead and say, I have pride in what I shall become. Time it was And what a time it was. It was . . . A time of innocence, A time of confidences, long ago ... it must be . . . I have a photograph. Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you. 5 ALMA MATER Oh Marshall High Forever Our Alma Mater Dear We Crown Thee Fairest High School Thy Name we love to Hear Forever We will Love Thee With Hearts so True and Strong Oh Marshall High the BEST SCHOOL! We Praise Thee in Song e 9 Give Us Just One Victory A super eleven in '77 was the battle-cry of the Big Red Varsity Football Team. The Red Machine's victorious season suffered losses only to a powerful Padua Team and to arch-rival St. Ignatius in a 28-26 thriller. By winning the first four games of the season, the Big Red accomplished what no other Mar- shall football Team in the entire history of the school has ever been able to achieve. The record setting fourth victory was particularly sweet for it came against the state power North Canton Hoover. Marshall journeyed to Stark County for that game and Defeated the Vikings 19-6 on their home field. IRON! ROW. loll lo f.M Renee DcCocr, Drew Wwi, Sieve Wdvon. Tom I , Kc.lh Rol.cn. Mork Rcyoll.. There are regrets, for we take memories with us which may grow rosier as time passes, but the regrets are balanced by the joys of freedom and accomplishments and plans for the future. Our diplomas represent the years of our youth, but most prominently the ones spent at Marshall. With these diplomas we have the keys to anything in our futures. We would never have made it this far without the endless aid and support of our senior class advisors and our homeroom teachers. At this time we extend our deepest gratitude to them. 48 artwork done by Bill Hunt and Karen Corcoran 49 Sally Misch, president Kim Dailey, vice president Rosann Barber, secretary Rose DeLuca, Two other senior supporters on the squad are Ken Dinard and Pete Panos. The team showed considerable improvement from last year with a record of 7-8-2. The loss of the nucleus of seniors who led JMH to a 12-6 season and the city championship in 1976 led most to believe that the team would have to go through the trauma of a rebuilding season in 1977. Not so! The inexperienced collection of juniors and sophomores won the city, district, and sectional championships. The girls tennis team had a winning record in its first season of existence. The only loss came with a hard fought contest with Berea. Marshall victories over Collinwood, )ane Addams, and Midpark were the highlights of the season. A r ■ % A. Senior, Scott Blaha. Tuba” 126 The Oompah Dolls set off the Marching Band's performance with their distinctive talent and charm when they do their dancing tuba routine on the Football Field. The Color Guards are a highly talented group who carry the flags during pre-game performances. During half time they really make those guns twirl as they join their efforts with the Marching Band. M7 Aided by Director Miss Mary Eileen Fogarty, this musical group of twenty-five singers strives to maintain the high status that they have held in the past years. Through many hours of practice along with patience and teamwork, the senior members Ute Penning, Karen Beecher, Diane Cole, Steve Congelli, Lee Filer, Jeanne Gibson, Tammy Goga, Carol Kopcak, John Karadimas, Dave McKissock, Ruth Mikcr, Karen Monschein, Mary O'Connor, Jeanne Parker, Tim Parry, Dina Ricci, Bryan Sloan, and Pete Stamatis, along with the junior members Eric Anderson, Kaye Brashwitz, Chris D'Amico, Terry Hampton, Amy Majusick, Marty Nolan, and Ron Strah represent Marshall at various events throughout Cleveland. 128 Just like our Lawyers, the Marching Band is another hardworking team at Marshall. Under the direction of band captain Brenda Rice, the band, sending the air reverberating at the football games, served as an inspiration for our team. As can be seen from our football record, our Marching Band should be commended for all the inspiring they did this year. THANKS TEAM! 129 The sound of music and in a special way the joys of Christmas are brought to us every year by these two fine vocal music groups. They put smiles on our faces, joy in our heart, and at Christmas time help remind us of its true meaning. After witnessing the organization of the yearbook for two years in a row, under similiar circumstances, I want to commend this year's staff. We've had many obstacles this year, yet, under the guidance of Miss Baran and the persistence of the staff we have been successful in turning out a yearbook that I'm sure everyone will be pleased with. I must be honest in saying, though, that much of our success is due to the much appreciated cooperation of Mr. Nielson and his Interpreter Staff photographers. Bill Hunt, who designed the artwork on the cover and on one page of the Senior section, and Karen Corcoran who did the lettering for two pages of the Senior section. Finally I'd like to thank Ripcho's, and most important every member of the yearbook staff for their aid and cooperation. Editor-In-Chief 145 146 147 148 149 150 1S1 H.R. 805 kneeling.
