ACTIVITIES Page 10 ORGANIZATIONS Page 28 A THLETICS Page 38 FACULTY Page 48 SENIORS Page 62 ADVERTISING Page 84 t+ Students in wood shop produce cabinetry to professional standards. Choral groups benefit from added practice rooms where ensembles prepare for their participation in larger groups The New John Were Dedicated Library expansion now provides for intensive study in specific subject areas. Innovations in metal work call for equipment that keeps pace with techniques. Improvements of Marshall High School October 28, 1965 Conservationists contribute to the attractive patio setting by maintaining plantings. Students of art work in a number of media in preparation for a vocation or for esthetic satisfaction. 'John Marshall maintains its position as a leader among the Cleveland schools through educational advancements. The new addition presents an even greater challenge to fulfill the needs of coming Marshallites in a broader curriculum. ” Jim Dickinson Depicted here are scenes of innovations: the culmination of two years expansion program. The first step in JM's renovations is this language laboratory. Here tape recorders aid the learning process. A good drafting background is vital to preparation in the vocational shop field. A lavish new patio accommodates warm weather dances and teas. Burgeoning enrollment made necessary the new physical education facility, used after school hours for social activities. Modem homemakers gain necessary experience in use of the latest equipment. Another step toward comprehensive vocational training came with the addition of the print shop. Growing interest in automotive mechanics made this addition a necessity. Complementing expansion in the vocal music department is an addition to instrumental music. A restaurant atmosphere is captured in the Tea Room where students in advanced home economics classes prepare and serve luncheons. Upwards of 2,400 students occupy 312 during the course of the day while student study hall chairmen maintain optimum study conditions. ACTIVITIES Waitress Club FIRST ROW L. Steitz, P. Twelve John Marshall students were among 14,000 semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program this year. A booklet listing the names of the semi-finalists is sent to colleges and universities and scholarship-granting agencies throughout the country. Semi-finalists who become finalists receive a certificate of merit and are eligible to receive further consideration for both national and sponsored merit scholarships. The twelve semi-finalists, the most John Marshall has had in the eleven years of the program's existence, illustrated the fact that quality education is available at John Marshall. A student must make sacrifices to achieve and it is apparent that these students have done just this. Congratulations semi-finalists! National Merit Scholarship FIRST ROW: T. Holluck, D. Trout, M. Calisthenics are vital to physical education. Push-ups are a major part of the unavoidable navy tests. FACULTY Mr. H. J. Vinyard The yearbook takes many hours of planning. During the 1965-66 school year, the English Department is continuing an experiment in team teaching, begun in the spring semester of 1965. All 12A College-Bound English students are assigned to large groups taught cooperatively by a team of teachers. Each student gets the benefit of the special talents combined in the team, and the teachers learn new techniques from one another in such a cooperative effort. The Honors and Advanced Placement program is in full swing for the second year. The first Advanced Placement class to have the benefit of a special three-year course of study was graduated last June. These students made an impressive showing in the Nationwide Advanced Placement English Test, a substantial majority of the students earning college credit in English. 54 There are over 17,000 books available for students' use in the library. S. Deubel A. Caliguire J. Chippi D. Cox J. Dare P. Johanni R. Mantenieks J. Moxley P. Oswald M. Schulte An experimental class is offered this semester in 1 IB American History. All J2A college-bound English students are assigned to large groups taught cooperatively by a team of teachers. Each student gets the benefit of the special talents combined in the cooperative effort. The Honors--Advanced Placement English program is in full swing for the second year. The first Advanced Placement class to have the benefit of a special three-year course of study was graduated last June. These students made an impressive showing in the nation-wide Advanced Placement English Examination, a substantial majority of the students earning college credit in English. In the very near future a course in child development will be offered at John Marshall. A laboratory will be set up in a nearby elementary school. Several of our large restaurants in Cleveland are being staffed by personnel who have taken training in Tea Room and Vocational Foods at John Marshall. One hundred and fifty girls participated in the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Test. Our school has had two runner-ups for the past two years. We are truly hopeful for a winner this year. In addition, there is a large general pamphlet collection and an outstanding career file containing over 2, 500 pamphlets in a wide range of vocations. There are four librarians to assist students to find the material they want or to help them learn how to use a library. Important to the functioning of our library are the 24 student library aides who volunteer their services each semester. Our library accommodates 124 students.
