Pine 51 c chsagh For eleven long years Marshall has fallen victim to a tough Ignatius football team. On the memorable day of November 8, 1953, before Marshall's largest, loudest, crowd of the year, our spirited team finally routed those Wildcats 30-22. Marshall took the lead in the first period, Schmidt scoring from the two, and held that lead until near the end of the third period, when the Wildcats went on top 22-16. Senior Bill Hcge's pass to Rosenthal for a 37 yard touchdown tied the score at 22 all. The small but deadly Cliff Schmidt streaked five yards for the victory points. Ignatius, in panic, took to the air. The Lawyers were ready. Hoge intercepted the Wildcat's last chance pass. During the closing moments of the game the delirious shouting of the fans rose to a fevered pitch. At the gun. spectators, wild with excitement, swarmed onto the field in jubilation as the team carried Coach Moritz off the gridiron in triumph. Paj-c 55 few FIRST HOW (loll to right): Joo Koslor. Pape 71 cm cm SEPTEMBER . . . And the beginning of our last lap as seniors at J.M.H. ... for the first time in years this was an all senior high school . . . when walking the halls of Marshall we were amazed to see that some remodeling had been done . . . the dish pan hands we got from scrubbing the social room floors . . . the traditional Kick-Otf Dance starting the school semester and the football season . . . having our pictures taken at the May Company . . . (How photogenic we were!)... the Gym Leaders' overnight at Camp Cheerful .. . our nervousness and hopefulness while trying out for our senior play .. . trying to figure out what class committee you'd like to be on . . . (Didn't get the one you wanted, did you?) OCTOBER . . . And the homecoming festivities and the dance honoring the queen . . . (Our class knows who the real queens were!) . . . our class pictures finally coming back from the photographers and the trouble we had thinking of something to write on the back . . . the Army-Navy All Star SpeedAway game and the girls in those football jerseys . . . our Badminton Team bringing home, for the second time, the West Side championship . . . the late play practices and the riots the cast had . . . The Boosters' Club Fun Festival and the prizes your boy friend won for you . . . N.E.O.T.A. day and the extra forty winks you had that morning. NOVEMBER . . . When everyone attended the big hit of the year, Blithe Spirit... keeping our fingers crossed hoping no one would forget his lines ... the last football game of the year when we upset St. Ignatius 30 to 22. a great victory to climax the season . . . the drill team's Last Chance Dance . . . the day in room 230 when we were measured for our caps and gowns, everyone wondering what size he would take . . . our senior informal. Autumn Whirl, the only informal at which everyone danced . . . the dinner party afterwards at Captain Frank's . . . basketball season opening for another year, with a team determined to win the West Senate championship . . . the initiation of the new bleachers in the Boys' Gym that same night . . . the All Star show and dance. I'juc 2 DECEMBER . . Report cards, a red letter day. when we all anticipated passing marks which would assure us of a place in the processional on January 27 . . . Bill Hoge receiving the Most Valuable Football Player Award at the Football and Cross Country Banquet at which Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns was guest speaker . . . N.H.S. induction, welcoming Mr. Scott back as speaker . . . the tension mounting as you waited for your name to be called as an inductee . . . dancing at the Mistletoe Magic, the annual Christmas formal . . . who could forget the cleaning up the next day? . . . the good skaters who sat down on the ice more than they skated at the class skating party held at Winterhurst. JANUARY . . . The beautiful dresses swirling on the dance floor as we attended our last high school prom. Sentimental Journey . . . everyone shouting The class books are here! . . . half of us forgetting the receipts in the mad rush to room 104 ... the many shirt buttons that popped because proud 12As passed their final marking periods . . . walking through the lunch line for the last time ... singing the class song and good-bye to the 12B's . . . our last walk through Marshall's hallowed halls as we, with sad hearts, said good-bye to our teachers, full of appreciation for all they had done for us . . . the seniors playing the faculty in the traditional Senior-Faculty Basketball Game .. . our Senior Reception in the Oasis . . . everyone talking about past school days at Marshall and future plans . . . getting up bright and early to go to commencement practice at Lake-wood Civic Auditorium . . . our classmates in a state of confusion getting last minute signatures in their class books . . . the big night finally arrived finding us nervous ... would we forget the words to our class song or the alma mater, would someone goof as we stepped forward to receive our sheepskins? . . . Time alone would tell. TOMORROW . . . To the strains of the recessional we arise for the last time as a class. We behold a sea of faces. Faces we have learned to know so well. Some we will see again, some we will not. But rest assured, none will be forgotten. What the future holds we do not know, but each and every one of us will remember our happy days at John Marshall. As we grow older, how often will we wish we were back enjoying the carefree days at the greatest school in the city of Cleveland. Pa 73
