Page 38 6V S 3 111 A 11 D V DO YOU REMEMBER September—Do you remember our first day of school after that wonderful vacation? Our thoughts turned from the pleasant 12B Class picnic in July to the fall semester's activities at Marshall. The homework from our ambitious class teachers also kept us very busy. . . . And remember our thrilling opening senate football game with West High? Our cheering was repaid by the winning score of 7-0. We looked forward to many more victories, but where were they? . . . ★ ★ October—Remember our first report card, and the many worries preceding that day?— Then came a hard laborious week of making out our last plan cards. Everyone wanted an easy course for his 12A semester, which seemed an impossibility. . . . The Senior Informal was a big success with everyone looking his best for the first senior affair of the year. . . . Community Center started its second season with a large enrollment, which was accentuated on the night of the Halloween Party, when patched jeans and plaid shirts were in order. . . . N.K.O.T.A. ended the month by gifting all students with a long week-end. . . . ★ ★ ★ November—Many happy senior days were found in November. First came the exciting Girls' All-Star Speedball game in which many seniors participated. . . . Finally the suspense was over! The important day had come! Yes. the X.H.S. induction welcomed 12 new members from our class. . . . Student teacher day offered good experience to the F.TA. members, while the classes enjoyed a change in teaching for a day. . . . The Variety Show afforded an evening well spent. . . . November ended with Thanksgiving vacation welcomed by both teachers and students. . . . ■¥■ ★ ★ December—The first week in December brought our 12B Senior Prom. “Winter Fantasy”! Remember the winter effect brought about by the silver evergreen and snowman? And that music was just dreamy. . . . The senior girls had a slumber party where each girl attempted to get her much-needed beauty rest, along with a lot of fun. . . . The Christmas play was a big success, and the Choir’s joyful caroling through Marshall’s quiet halls the following morning added to our high Christmas spirit. Of course the coming vacation had something to do with it. . . . Page J,3 DO YOU REMEMBER January—The Dinner-Dance initiated the New Year with a ala evening for all. A wonderful dinner, delightful speeches, followed by the grand march, and dancing constituted a memorable occasion. . . . Many humorous acts in the 12A talent show amused the Marshallitcs. . . . Our basketball team continued with the addition of several new players after the graduation of the 12A members of the team. . . . Although the departing seniors were very sad on the night of commencement, we were quite happy because we then officially became the 12A's of the best high school in the U.S.A. . . . if if if February—The spring semester was well on its way by the middle of the month, with all clubs organizing their activities for the coming semester. The seniors voted on their 12A class officers, and committees were organized and started on their work for the semester. . . . Remember those senior pictures? During the whole month this subject was one of the most prominent among the seniors, with everyone disliking his own proofs intensely. Many retakes were in order, but finally the pictures were agreed upon. . . . ★ ★ ★ March—The girl athletes again showed their skills at the All-Star Basketball game in March. The close score was proof of the exciting and thrilling battle held in the boys' gym. We received our first of three report cards. . . . First on the calendar of the senior social events for the semester was the much celebrated “Leprechaun Leap, ’ the afternoon mixer. Although the girls appeared in their best attire at eight o’clock in the morning, the boys found it more convenient to wear their usual jeans for the day. The girls were relieved when the fellows made their grand entrance at 3 :30 in their Sunday-best. ... As our basketball season ended, the cindermen started off with a bang. They appeared from the underground track to show off what they learned during the hard winter months. . . . Marshall was proud to initiate Cleveland’s first chapter of the French Honor Society. . . . Page 44 DO YOU REMEMBER April—April had a very pleasant beginning as Spring Vacation occupied the first week of the month. ... The 12A Weiner Roast was held in spite of the rain that tried to wash us out. . . . Do you remember the busy week-end which included the N.H.S. induction, open house, and the prom? Eleven surprised, but extremely happy 12A’s were tapped at the assembly, and. with the other inductees, were assigned to kitchen duty after the tea in the social room. . . . Many parents and friends of the neighborhood viewed the achievements of the students and teachers on the night of Open House, while Community Center was at its height of gaiety in the boys' gym. . . . And remember the Prom ? The crystal ball, colored lights, and crepe paper had everyone dizzy from the spots circling the ceiling, walls and floor. The “Stardust Swirl's” theme song was played along with many other romantic pieces, as the boys in their chic dinner jackets and the girls looking just heavenly walzed the evening through. The merriment of the occasion was endless. . . . Amateur actors and actresses had the audience in fits of laughter at the time of the Spring Play. “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay.” . . . ★ ★ ★ May —Remember when the talented band, orchestra, and choir members presented their spring concert? The selections both beautiful and amusing were well chosen and prepared. . . . The beautifully decorated gym was proof of the hard work of the social committee. After a hearty dinner and polished speeches and an enjoyable evening of dancing, the happy Seniors were reluctant to go home. The Dinner-Dance was a success. . . . Thanks to the Hoard of Education for an extra day of vacation preceding Memorial Day. We really enjoyed our long four day week-end. . . . ★ ★ ★ June—The “days left on our locker calendars were disappearing rapidly. Our Senior Play brought roars of laughter and applause and everyone was in high spirits. . . . Our last high school report cards were received; our studies had ended. . . . The Senior Tea climaxed a long hot day of Commencement rehearsal. We all got together for an afternoon of fellowship at the last social event of our happy days at John Marshall High School. . . . The big night finally came. We struggled into our caps and gowns and with shaking knees and tears in our eyes marched up to receive our diplomas. That, perhaps, was the most memorable time in our high school career. Page 45 T efraiyi (SUwLy w'.+b ft F fl F VT 6b ( Mu T.
