Page 42 DO YOU REMEMBER SEPTEMBER—Do you remember or would you rather forget those fall football games? The Salem game initiated our team to its sad future. We found those new night games a great success in spite of the outcome. Remember the impressive rally for our West Tech Game? We met the team and cheered vigorously for a victory. But where was it? . . . Do you remember those fun-packed Friday nights that the new Community Center Program furnished? Our canteen was off to a good start. ★ • OCTOBER—Do you remember that first report card that came too soon—much too soon? . . . Our Community Fund Assembly was a great success with our own composer to write the music, and the girls' ensemble to supply the voices. . . . Having a World Olympic Champion, Harrison Dillard, for our tax stamp award assembly was a great thrill and honor.... Ah, and remember the Hallowe’en Party at the Community Center? Great fun was had by all. especially since the N.E.O.T.A. convention came along just in time to give us a day off. • NOVEMBER—The Variety Show ushered in this month with a two-night run of dazzling entertainment. Remember the Harvey girls, Pensiero and May at the piano, the tap dancing, and the graceful ballet? . . . And wasn't it nice to sit down and enjoy the beautiful singing provided by the Choir at its assembly? Remember The Woodchuck Song? . . . The impressive N.H.S. induction welcomed a few more of our classmates who tearfully joined the selected group. . . . The All Star speedball game was a refreshing entertainment by our feminine athletes. . . . Thanksgiving vacation wound up the month of November and we welcomed it with a sigh of relief. ★ • DECEMBER—Nothing like starting a month out right . . . and that we did with our I2B Senior Prom. Remember the beautiful huge crystal ball and the colorful lights reflected on the walls? Still dizzy? . . . Our basketball team started its successful season with the Bedford game. The Student Council dance after the John Hay game was a grand finale to a perfect evening. Our basketball victories began to pile up. . . . Other things began to pile up, too. Remember how we tripped over tarpaulins and stooped under ladders during this last year. Our school was given that new look just in time for us to enjoy it. . . . Christmas vacation increased the cheery atmosphere of winter by climaxing the month of December and ending the old year. Page 43 JANUARY—We started the new year off with a bang by having our I2B Dinner Dance. Remember those delightful speeches? . . . Our basketball team continued their outstanding victories. We won six games this month. . . . We said farewell to our departing classmates as the I2A commencement gave us a preview of what we would soon be doing. . . . And at last our I2B semester was over. After a two-day vacation we returned to a new semester, our last; we were now !2A's. • FEBRUARY—Soon after the election of our I2A officers, the winning candidates found themselves busily wrapped up in work. . . . Remember the ordeal we had with our pictures? Since the proofs never seemed to satisfy, the May Company had many repeat performances. . . . After winning the West Side Championship in a fight-to-the-finish game with Lincoln, the basketball team was cheered vigorously in a pep rally. Remember those “lengthy speeches of the team members? The ’Ah's' had it! But they really showed their stuff when they confronted the East Side Champs at the Arena. The action-packed game was almost a tragedy as we realized every second of that last minute counted. And then—swish!—We became the city Champions!! ★ • MARCH—Remember our auditorium homeroom? It surely was nice to have the whole class together—just one big family. ... St. Patrick's day was honored with our 'Blarney-Bounce' Informal. Remember the 'blarney stone'? Everything was superb, including the music, the entertainment, the girls’ finery, and the boys' new pastel shirts. . . . The 'Amazons' of Marshall presented the All Star Basketball game, proving the weaker sex are not always weak. . . . Plans for our baseball team got underway with us, the students, as financiers. . . . Our track team got ready for their meet at the Arena. Mr. Billingham's boys looked promising. ★ • APRIL—April fools' day was followed shortly with Mr. Berwald's birthday. Remember the mammoth cake we presented him? The dignified N.H.S. induction added several more of our classmates to the ranks of the honored. . . . Ah, remember the yo-yo craze? This Spring 'sport' affected even the seniors. . . . Remember the night dance sponsored by the Student Council for the baseball fund? The polkas certainly seemed to have made a hit! . . . Remember the crazy 'Knock, Knock'; 'Who's there?' fad? Yes, the Spring bug bit us pretty hard this year . . . Last, but not least, in the month of April was the spring play, Act Your Age. The comedy was terrific, and the lady wrestlers were a howling success. Congratulations to Miss de Ryke and the cast for a fine play. Page 44 MAY—At last our own senior prom was here with 'Moonlight and Roses' providing the beautiful background. We had the merry-go-round of colored lights to fascinate us again. The dreamy music held us spellbound as we danced amidst the moonlight and roses. Ah. what a night to remember! . . . Open house acquainted our parents and pedagogues with joint problems, and gave them an opportunity to chat over their darlings' (that's us) merits and demerits. . . . Our senior play was a wonderful show (at least we thought so) and uncovered the hidden talents of our fellow seniors. The entertainment world has something to anticipate, what? (That's what we'd like to know!)... The beautiful and inspiring music we heard coming from the auditorium was our own Marshall symphony as presented in the Spring Concert, with the band, orchestra, and choir doing the honors. © ★ JUNE—The month we had been waiting for was here at last. . . . Our Senior Dinner Dance was an evening to remember. The dinner was delicious, and after the speeches, the grand-march found us going gaily toward the dance floor where we mingled joyously with our fellow seniors. . . . And then the inevitable day arrived . . . Commencement. With diploma in one hand and a carnation in the other, and with joy and sorrow mixed within our hearts, we ended our high school days forever, and looked forward to the future.
