The JM Choir and its divisions play an important part in the active year at John Marshall. It was called upon to perform at the SEMEA Convention this year and had a large part in the Christmas assembly. It was also asked to sing at the State Fair last summer, and of course, the highlight of the year was the presentation of Oklahoma Other divisions of the music department are the Chamber Singers, a group of select singers who perform at special occasions, and the Girls' Cho- rus, which grooms them in the basics of reading music and counting rhythms. Mr. Suddendorf is the director of the choir and head of the music department. 63

Led by the drum maior and three maiorettes, the band marches for all home football games - often through wind, rain, and cold - maintaining high quality through great enthusiasm. The band marches in the Homecoming and Memorial Day parades and presents three formal concerts a year. A picture of the Rocket band appears yearly in The First Chair of America, a publication honoring the nation's finest high school bands. 65 f
