For People . . . There are many Things which make up a high school: buildings, brick walls and Tile floors, parking loTs for cars, and ringing bells ThaT call down The long halls To The classrooms-and There are PEOPLE-each of Them unique in his own special way. More Than 2,000 individuals become a crowd of PEOPLE when The school's doors are opened aT 8:00 each morning. Some dream of nexT week's game or of The daTe They had The nighT before. Troubles are puT away and The only imporTanT Thing is Talking To The gang or rushing To some meeTing. And in a corner of The library some sTudenTs sTudy for a TesT. They are The ones who believe ThaT sTudying is imporTanT and puT socializing off for anoTher Time. BuT oThers are unhappy in school, and find no reason To sTudy or To make friends, They are usually glad To see The day end. The Tardy bell rings and The crowd spliTs inTo classes. There are devo- Tionals on The inTercom, and The Teachers Teach-or Try To-and The sTu- denTs learn-aT Times. PEOPLE fill The halls beTween classes, leaving, wiThin a shorT Time, a noiselessness where recenTly They had been. These PEOPLE work and play, scribble noTes on scraps of paper, sharpen pencils, and climb sTairs. They leave invisible fooTsTeps behind Them wher- ever They go, and radiaTe a warm feeling of life. Noises, beaufiful noises, fill The rooms wherever There are PEOPLE. Noises can be heard in The cafeTeria during lunch hours when Thinking seems forbidden and Trays, silverware, and chairs are consTanTly shuffled. Noises fill corridors when homeroom parTies are held, or when sTudenTs are singing ChrisTmas Carols in The halls before The holidays. PEOPLE and noise fill The gym or audiTorium on assembly days. They roar Their ap- proval when The foofball Team runs onTo The field or when a girl in a bear suiT does a flip. Yes, a school is iTs PEOPLE. The way They look and feel, The Things They do and say, and The places They go. These make up a school. These are The PEOPLE who build upon The foundaTions laid by The passing parade of MARSHALLITES.
