JMX! NEW HORIZONS Since time began, man has been interested in the land beyond the horizon. Space beckoned and history has re- corded man's response. For- tunate, indeed, are those who live in this 20th century when men have actually begun to challenge the majesty of the stars, not just look at their mysteries. New ideas, new in- ventions, NEW HORIZONS. These Horizons have not been conquered easily. Un- derstanding and education are not always harmonious and are certainly not simple matters. Science has extended our experience and shown it to be infinitely complex. Astronomers, with great tele- scopes, have brought men into understanding contact with space and infinity! A great thinker, Sir Thomas Brown, once said, The world is just a small parenthesis in eterni- ty. The educational system of today reflects the greatness of the times. Man does not hesitate, afraid, on the brink of eternity, He thinks, studies, experiments, then moves with new confidence, into space toward NEW HORIZONS. Conventional boundaries between sciences are neither fixed nor absolute. They have been swept aside. Each ad- vance brings the urge, in all fields, to surge farther past newly established lines. Eager to study, to follow, to lead, are the young people of this generation. They accept with composure and assurance, the results achieved hy their con- temporaries in science, medi- cine, literature, automation and space. These are NEW HORIZONS. Tying together NEW HORIZONS and deep rooted tradition is the order of the day at schools across this na- tion. At .lohn Marshall, edu- cation forges ahead. Young minds project into the future while keeping a firm stand on the precepts which were begun even before the ad- vent of man upon the earth! In studying a million-year-old fossil, a modern student may find the key to the future. Here students have the unique distinction of being able to point back to the magnitude of the Great Chief Justice, from whom it got its name as well as to the illustrious tra- ditions of the school itself. All this gives stability and confidence to the efforts which go on unhampered by educational prejudice. John Marshall keeps its place at the front line of a steady surge of young America to- ward NEW HORIZONS. Here are pictured events and faces, now old to John Marshall but ever a part of the new educational Horizons.
