Library Leads Searching Students to Research, Relaxation Students and faculty members make John Marshall's library a gathering place for those desiring aid in research, reference work or a novel for that much-needed book report. Eleven thousand volumes comprise the library, in addi- tion to the books, many magazines and news- papers are made available to the students. The reading area located on the west side of the library is a favorite place for those who have no pressing assignments and want to relax for a few minutes ,during the busy school day. Marian Dierdorff, school librarian, and Jo Ann Pryse, assistant librarian, are constantly on the lookout for new books that will enlighten as well as entertain. Today, when more and more emphasis is being placed upon the academic areas of school life, the library occupies an important position. It is here, amidst an atmosphere of study and books that research is done for prize-winning essays, Science Fair Projects, and other school events. The library provides the foundations necessary for students to achieve not only aca- demic fulfillment, but also extra-curricular fulfill- ment. .lt is a storehouse of unlimited knowledge that is made available to students who seek it at John Marshall's library. John Marshall High School John Marshall Junior-Senior High School, that modern structure located on University Avenue in Oklahoma City is the scene of continual progress in the field of education. The building is one of the educational centers for northwest Oklahoma City. In this school year of 1961-62, approximately 2600 students crowd into the halls of the modern- istic structure made of steel, concrete, brick and glass. Taught by a 99 member faculty, these stu- dents spend well over two million hours in the classroom each year. Over half of the instructors have lVIaster's Degrees. The high school is a member of the North Central Association which demands high educa- tional qualifications for continuing membership. Not far from this three million dollar building are Edgernere Theater, scene of musical highlights throughout the summer season, the Cowboy Hall Of Fame and Oklahoma City University. On the campus are a football practice field, baseball field, and a girls' and boys, gymnasium. Achievement is the aim of the school's faculty and students. Achievement in academic areas, on the playing fields and in one's personal life. We take aim at achievement as surely as the space scientists aim toward the ultimate conquering of outer space. For the ultimate hope of all is a rich, full, satisfying future which can only be gained through continual achievement. For us, all begins with . . . JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL A Proud Achievement

Students relax during those first days of school when summer is still here and winter seems faraway. Campus Combines Recreation and Rehearsals When Indian Summer comes to John Marshall for one last fling before autumn settles over the school, students relax at noon or after school in a green area on the west side of the school. Each day at John Marshall brings to the students new challenges, new friends to make, new duties to perform. It is in this way that John lVIarshall's stu- dents arel constantly achieving. We learn to smile at defeat and to take winning right in stride . . . this is real school spirit. Students learned to contribute what they knew and could do for the clubs to which they belonged . . J. achievement through contribution. Here at John Mar- shall, we learned that God was a part of each and everything attempted . . . achievement through worship. Darendia Lowther, a drama student who is an accomplished ballerina, has represented the school in many dramatic functions.
