l LXNWQJ wwlltltl lab-Jiwqrov A N ww S BAM few-to Cv . L ' Jleout WW M WMM Zitlylxwwcfhm Heregw y Foreword cave 1 JM The meaning of the RING is deep-seated in the hearts of John Marshall students. The three familiar symbols carry three traditional messages: The BEAR is a sturdy figure of strength and clean youthful endeavor. The LYRE is remindful of the fine arts and extra-curricular interests which are integral parts of the curriculum of John Marshall. The LAMP is the ever gleaming light leading to learning, to research, and to higher education. Joining all these symbols is the strong circle of gold which brings them together to form a complete circle of John Marshall careers. ln the quietness of the library, in the busy classrooms, in the noisy elections, and in the wild hilarity of the Homecoming Bonfire the RING is ever-present. The staff of the l96l BEAR TRACKS has endeavored to show a sample section of all the activities encircled by the RING of l96l. The Seniors will turn the pages with nostalgia, the underclassmen with hope and incentive to ambition. John Marshall graduates will handle this book through the years and will remember these scenes, They will recall the deep meaning and mes- sage of the RING.
