In Oklahoma City the members of the Board of Education are elected by the people. Thus, the actual con- trol of the schools rests with the voters. Under the careful guidance of a dedicated superintendent, Dr. J. Chester Swanson, our Board of Education has kept citizens of Oklahoma City in- formed of the great work that is being done toward securing the best qualified personnel, procuring most up-to-date educational material, build- ing new buildings, repairing and maintaining those already in existence. Our growth as city and schools is rapidly increasing. We at John Marshall are proud indeed, to he one of the finest of a splendid list of good schools. liuw iuutlv liim u iuwrilc with faculty and students. issfslullt 1'rinf'i ml I 1.-XRWIN FI.ENIINlL whose fairness und sincerity l'1'1'nripnl to stud mire- iiim. One of the major projects of the year was the fill- ing of Christmas hoxes for foreign needy, a concentrated membership drive and similar organization needs. In the picture above the JM group memhers are selling candy in the hall as a part of a project. Mrs. Janet Pharr, English teacher. has been sponsor of the group for 1955-56. Debate Traditionally, John Marshall presents each year a fine speech department. Much empha- sis this year has gone into deliate teams and groups. Results of these efforts have amply repaid the tireless work of the students under the capable leadership of Mr. Oliver C. Hob- erts. They have taken part in inter-city, inter- school and state competition. The picture shows an informal group around one of the debate tables in the classroom.
