Six new teachers accept history posts From the pyramids to the skyscrapers, from Charlemagne to Charles deGaulle, from an- cient happenings to current topics, the History Department strove to give students an un- derstanding of civilization. Movies and speakers added to the regular curriculum. To grasp the basic plot of the story of mankind, fresh- men studied world history and geography. Tenth-graders could elect a course in twen- tieth century issues and prob- lems. The rise of the United States was investigated by jun- iors, with special emphasis on the history of Virginia. Delv- ing into the study of govern- ments and economics, seniors obtained a well-rounded view of their environment. William H. Weatherspoon A.B., Duke University Ronald M.
