The first night was a real blast with the fire alarm go- ing off at 1 a.m. Next morn- ing everyone was up and ready to go to the White House. We waited in line for an hour and walked through a few rooms. Afterwards we took a tour of Washington, D.C., visiting the Lincoln Me- morial, the Arlington Nation- al Cemetery, the Capitol Building, and the Jefferson Memorial. Later that night, after reviving ourselves at the hotel, we saw the lights of Washington, D.C., from the Washington Monument. The next morning we went to the Smithsonian Institute. Expecting a large building, I was astounded when l saw quite a few of them. They had everything from Saber- tooth tigers to space cap- sules and rockets.
