Evening School keeps growing Nearly l,300 students are tak- ing advantage of John Marshall's Evening School. From 5 until 9 p.m., students can take both aca- demic courses such as chemistry and math classes or personal inter- est courses such as upholstery and physical education. According to Evening School Director Clifford Snyder, students enroll in Evening School for several reasons. Some teenagers finish up their senior year by going to Eve- ning School to continue their edu- cation and maintain a iob during the day. It is also common for some adults to take Evening School to finish their education. Others iust want to improve skills such as in math or they want hobby classes. As of now, there are a total of 74 teachers teaching in Evening School compared to 126 teaching who teach in day school. Beginning with the second year of Evening School, there have been six graduation ceremonies and more than T00 graduates each year. Students have a choice of a Marshall diploma or one from the school where they have earned the most credits. The cost of Evening School is three dollars a semester for high school courses, the fee is 5420.00 tuition in addition to a regular class fee. Marshall's Evening School is open to any person l6 years or older living in the state of Indiana. However, it is difficult for a l6- year-old to get into Evening School because the administration would rather have students this age com- plete their education in day school. The Monday through Thursday schedule is flexible for community members. The Night School Divi- sion continues to grow each year. Mi , 5 .. The Guidance Department provides five counse- lors for the school's 2300 students. This is what is sometimes heard in the Guidance Office. I'm sorry but l cannot change your schedule. Do you have any idea about what you want to do when you get out of high school? How many credits are you car- rying right now? Are you going to college? Mr, Vardaman, l'm a senior and I only have 30 credits. What am I gonna do? Students should realize how important the Guidance Depart- ment really is. Getting schedules made out is only one of many tasks that involve the counselors and stu- dents. Keeping files and talking with each student individually also involves time for the guidance counselors and the student. The counselors spend time and make an effort to listen to each individual. Scheduling involves much paper work. Follow up coun- seling is done for students with poor grades and for those with per sonal problems.

He was one of the leaders of the Class of '78 and you could always count on him to be there when he was needed. Lynch is a very enthusiastic per- son and showed great spirit at all times. He was a member of the Varsity cheerleading squad and never missed a game, always in there, turning the silence of shyness into the roar of rowdiness. And even though he has suffered from doing something he loved most, he still has not lost his spirit. Larry has the fighting spirit and has waged war against his uphill battle for recovery. We some- times kidded each other about breaking bones or maiming each other, never dreaming that it could ever happen to either one of us, but, now that it has, the only thing we can do is just give him confi- dence and support. He's got plenty of spirit, and he's strong enough to pull through. l'm sure that he will. stated Derek Paff. Lynch does not need pity because he would not want any. Instead he needs encouragement from all his friends to show him that we're behind him and are pulling for him. Larry has never lost his fighting Patriot spirit even though the breaks have gone against him, iust as they have sometimes, gone against Marshall.
