Gerald Ford Larry Buell EZZEQQQM 5 3515535 :I EEE EEEEJHIESEEI C- E33 Ei Ford, Carter, Paff and Mollogon were a few of the people who ran for the presidential offices this year. Not all of these people were in the running for the national presi- dential office, only Carter and Ford. The other two, Paff and Mol- logon, ran for the president of the school in our second annual mock election. The mock election was by the senior government classes and their teachers, although Mrs. Joyce Sausser was the one who got every- thing started. Beginning last spring Sausser started making plans for the mock election. Among the first things she had to do was to get the idea passed by the school board admin- istration. She made appointments to have guest speakers and made sure that we would have the proper facilities in which to hold the con- ventions. All in all she spent 30-40 hours preparing for the election outside of school time. The social studies teachers were given a list of committees that they would head. They in turn would put students in charge of the commit- tees. In this way they hoped that the students would get a feeling of the responsibilities placed on those people who were involved in politi- cal campaigns. Instead of using Republican and 1 -A- Democrat as names, the names given to the two parties were National and American. The Ameri- can convention was on October 2l and the National on October 22. The two parties announced their candidates who were Derek Paff and Linda Christensen for president and vice-president, respectively, from the American party. And for president of the National party was Raquel Mollogon with Mike Med- ford as her running mate. Mollogon won the election October 27 when the classes voted on a a real live voting machine. The mock election was a practical lesson in democ- racy.
