- 9' ,R Goins leads Pats in sad season Girls Tennis team ended their 1975 campaign with a team record of l win and 7 losses, despite the above-average performance of many of the girls. Led by seniors Karen Goins at number one singles and Shirley Pride at the number two position, the Patriot netters lost many of their matches by a slim 4-3 score. One sophomore player summed up the season this way, A lot of girls had winning seasons, we lust couldn't put it all together to win the ones we had to. This was exemplified as Pride finished the season with a respectable 6-6 record while Goins finished 5-8 at 12.332 the very difficult number one posi- Hom Along with these two players, two underclassmen, Joan Kane and Linda Christensen showed that they will have to be reckoned with in the '76 season. Christensen was partic- ularly outstanding with a 5-6 sea- son. She still has one year left to play. Perhaps the most promising fea- ture ofthe season was the out- standing play of the number one doubles team of Patricia Montgom- ery and Karen Weaver. This pair blasted their way through the sea- son with a 6-4 record and then cop- ped off the year in a fitting way by placing fourth in the City Tourna- ment. They viewed this year by say- ing A few missed shots and this season could have been completely different We will be a much improved team next year Their predictions don t seem too far off when we look ahead to next year Despite losing the number one and two players the netters will still have Kane and Christensen moving up into these difficult posl tions If Montgomery and Weaver can improve their game next year will hold quite a few surprises for some unsuspecting teams on the Patriot s schedule i Doug Reed looking for improvement in sty e 2 Lindo Christensen prepares to finish off her opponent with a backhand smash 3 Sophomore Kent Von Burg completes his follow through and watches his ball on its flight to the hole 4 Patricia Montgomery bears down on her serve Girls Tennis JMH5 OPP Ladywood Wood Manual B oad R pple R He Ho e Scec IU Beech Gro 22555555 . ,, . .
