Carder, Christensen, Dixon winners in spring Marshall's spring sports program has always been strong and loaded with talent. Golf has the most suc- cessful spring athlete in the form of sophomore John Fischer. Being the number one man onthe squad would have been enough for most sophomores. Throughout the sea- son, the hardworking youth col- lected many honors. Two of the most important were being a Med- alist in the City and becoming the Junior PGA Champion of Indiana. Baseball has always been a big sport at Marshall. The squad did have another fine outing, including being sectional champs for yet another year. In carrying onthe tradition of great athletes like Joe Hicks and John Crabtree were out- standing players Tom Carder and John Featheringill. Many ofthe remaining spring sports received little recognition, such as track and girls tennis. How- ever, these teams did work iust as hard. Despite a disappointing sea- son, the girls tennis squad pro- duced many outstanding players including 1.inda Christensen, Patri- cia Montgomery and Karen Weaver. The girls track team had an impressive season with Dianna Christensen as the top athlete. Dianna captured three school records in the high iump, hurdles and long iump. The boys track also had two runners of particular importance, senior Dave Dixon and sophomore Michael Pollard. The thinclads will be glad of Pollard's return to the hurdles. .I l l Ha fl. ..,,.. As May 21 came nearer, the wallets started shrinking. How am I gonna pay for all the stuff I need for the prom? I need S33 for the rental of my tux and I haven't even thought about the cost of the dinner, the tickets, the corsage and pictures. l'll never be able to get that. Prices of tuxedos have gone up S7 in the past five years. New styles with a kaleidoscope of colors have appeared on the market. Then the prom came, more sud- denly than most students expected. It was a night of excitement and dancing. Nobody really thought about the prices of anything. Robin Clevenger and Mark Steiner were crowned queen and king of the Prom in the 500 Ball- room ofthe Convention center. Linda Spang, Mary Beth Stiener, Linda Cornelius and Gail Tremain made up the queen's court. Making up the king's court were Bob Baker, Mike Bordenkircher, David Dixon and Don Schroder. if i l 1 i 2 Wu
