SCIENCE 43 Botany and Zoology students visit Chicago. Botany and Zoology students participated in a field trip to Chi¬ cago this year. Mr. Randy Lamb and Mr. David Otto selected the top students from the two classes to tour the Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium and the Brookfield Zoo. The major trip in spring was the annual Okefenokee Swamp trip. New teachers added to the department were Mr. Bob Tremain and Mr. Casminer Szynel; both taught Biology classes. — Phyllis Morgan ' Weren ' t those 13 kids lucky who ate at Diamond Jim s ' 28

FOREIGN LANGUAGE French and Spanish classes emphasize audio-visual aids in Language Dept. V just don ' t understand those er and ar verbs in Spanish! ' German students experimented this year with phase electives. Classes were offered to German students who had completed six semesters of the language. A vari¬ ety of subjects included German History, German Novelle, which dealt with realism in literature in the 1 9th century and Advanced Com¬ position, a development of gram- marical and technical writing. Future hopes include a team teach¬ ing program in which Mr. Robert ‘Doc’ Weaver and Mr. Brice Tres- sler would teach a German-Science class to study German Scientific accomplishments. French and Spanish classes emphasized the foreign language laboratory this year. The purpose of the lab was to develop speaking techniques in the various languages offered. As a result, the student was able to learn at his own pace. New teachers included Ms. Ruth Nelson, the new department chair¬ man and Ms. Mary Jane Freeland who taught Spanish. Phyllis Morgan
