Students vie for German II travel study Students walking through Mar- shall's language hall this year heard foreign greetings all around them. The Departments emphasis was on increased oral use of a foreign lan- guage by the Language Department students. Mr. William Jefferson and Mrs. Susan Schoenherr both taught Spanish for the first time here at Marshall. German students worked hard to , be able to participate in a study travel program in Europe. In Germany they would study the culture and customs along with the language. l leefwwfe-F 2 rx lg TAX i .eral-, Q? ' L wa 22 l Quizzing the class on the proper pronunciation of different hours of the day is sophomore Melissa Holmes. To create more class participation, the students often teach. RIGHT-Acting out a short one-act play during class are these Freshman German I students. Class participation is an im- portant part of the Foreign Language Department. Learning the location and the geography of the different cities towns and rivers of Germany is a main part of any German class. The culture, customs, and traditions of the country also are important along with the basic grammar and pronunciation of the native language fr-.Fi

Patriots study data process in business Miss Patricia Lanahan, who teaches General Business, and Mr. Kenneth Stanley, who councils and directs the D.E. class, were added this year to Marshall's Business Department. The department, headed by Mrs. Janet Weaver, stressed the dignity and worth of individuals. lt provided skills and attitudes needed to acquire and retain good jobs. The ability to manage present and future personal business affairs was also an im- portant objective. ABOVE-Adiusting a student's typewriter to the correct posi- tion during typing class, is Mr. Steven Sachs. Typing I, ll, lll and IV are offered at Marshall. RIGHT-Typing a class assignment is iunior Jerry Booth. Since it is necessary in most colleges and many iobs, ci maiority of students take at least one year of typing. if l lx 'iii ' Timing the speed and accuracy of iunior typist Carol Edwards is Mrs. Deborah Gioe. Speed is a main part of typing although accuracy, too, is an important goal towards good typing. These students are using electric typewriters which are easier to use and provide a better end result.
