Suddenly you are pushed fore ward by the movement of the crowd, as if being herded like a bunch of cattle, described senior Jeff Winter. This was the experience of eating lunch during Marshalls new single band. One forty minute period accomodated all 1,117 students as well as faculty members. l'l always run down there as fast as l can so l don't have to wait in that mob, confessed senior Jennifer Ligatich. One lunch band instead of two was just one change in the new schedule. Classes were lengthened to fifty minutes and a twenty minute break between second and third bands gave everyone a chance to relax. 'll like the break because ir gives me time to eat if I'm hungry or do last minute homework, commented sophomore Wendy Bizal. Along with schedule there were other changes, Former Jackson principal Gust Kanas replaced Nate Jones to head Marshalls staff. Kanas held a strong belief that students should be involved in activities such as sports and plays but also stressed academic priorities. Classes could no longer be skipped at a students whim because computere ized attendance taken in every class was initiated. Also, detention and Saturday School were introduced as disciplinary measures and could result from violations such as skipping class or insubordination.
