24 1 Break TIME FOR BREAKING AWAY 'lYou deserve a break to- day, The popular McDonald's jingle was taken to heart by Marshall administrators, This break was given as a fifteen minute free period be- tween second and third bands. It began with the agreement that if abused, it would be tak- en away, Although never tak- en away, it did cause a prob- lem with tardiness, lt worked fairly well, but there was room for improvement, particularly so students did not abuse it by being tardy for their next class, explained Principal Gust Kanas. Reasons for tardiness could range from candy raids at the student store to talking in the library and just forgetting the time. Don Fletcher, like most people, liked to go to the cafeteria, have a snack, and then go to the library to read the paper. Senior Phu Hoang also liked to go to the cafete- ria. Freshman Dreher Reed thought the break should be longer, by about five minutes or so. Even so, it was long enough for most people to get studying done. Larry Betcher could be found drinking coffee and get- ting his senior math assign- ments done. Also, geometry homework was done by Matt Pease during break For students, at least, break was a surprising welcome and the biggest change in schedule for quite a while. Although not sure at first what to do with this unaccustomed free time, it didn't take long for kids to fi- gure it out. , , - E1 Q- 5 'Z ae: . 7 X E, I-miebfw XWWW-W umm FUNNY FACE Senior Shelley Regimbal KILLER KLEENEX Playing a new game that spent most of het break working on year- was invented during the break, Dave Rog- book.
