In their first two games against Lincoln and Grant, the Maids came out with the win but not impressively. Marshall flopped in their next three games against Cleveland, Franklin and Wilson, scoring more errors than runs. The Minutemaids followed their shaky beginning with a strong comeback Winning seven of their next ten games, Marshall took fifth place and a berth in the PIL playe offs. The first opponent in the playoffs present- ed no problems for the MfMaids as they finished off Franklin, 8-1, Their next oppof nent, Cleveland, seemed to be a threat in the early innings but never got anything going late in the game against the Maids' strong defense. Marshall went on to edge out Cleveland 5-B. These wins awarded the Maids the second and last state playoff slot in the PIL. Lebanon took a beating from the Me Maids in the first round of the playoffs, 7-1. As opposed to the beginning of the season, yy- i , MZ the Minutemaids' defense was exceptional and they were hitting the ball well. The next round of the playoffs brought Putnam. They shut and knocked the M' Maids out of the playoffs, 5-O. The jv M-Maids had an outstanding seaf son under new coach Rod Jones. They lost only three games of twelve to fall short of first place. The jv's relied on making very few errors and strong hitting to propel them. Sophomore Leanne Michener ad- mitted, We made a few errors at the beginning of the season, but then we be- gan to play like a team and kept on wine ning games, Throughout the season many of the M- Maids earned all-state and all-city honors. First team all-state honors went to M-Maid shortstop Rosalynn Hortsch. Second team allestate and first team all-city went to center fielder Jan Nigo and designated hitter Milena Mitre, Kim Cappo earned second team alle city for right field and honorable mentions were shortstop Bosalynn Hortsch, catcher Jackie Nigo and second baseman Kim Cappo. ,W f we qw , f,,f,,N V I Apr Q it II y, MARSHALL VARSITY SOFTBALL FRONT: Jackie Nigo, Kim Cappo, Sheila MARSHALL JV SOFTBALL FRONT' Jackie Lee, Tina Niga, Vickie Goodman, Durham, Cathy Dozatk, Jan Nigo, Carmen Herman, BACK, Liz Currie, Milena Wendy Bizal, Cathy Dozark.
