As a result they had difficulty in pre-sea' son games. Wejust weren't ready, come mented lv player Gail Foster, We didn't know what to do, The other five girls were practicing with the varsity players so that they would be ready to play in varsity games, The reason for the jv girls not practicing together was a new rule in the PIL which was called the five-quarter rule lt en- abled the players to play five quarters each night of a game. For example, a player FOLLOWING THROUGH Freshman Anne Backus pushes off her foul shot in a game against Franklin, The Maids came out ahead, 83 211 SALAMI OR CHEESE? Sandwiched be tween two Cleveland opponents is sophomore Liz Wakeman Wakeman was just one of the Marshall players who participated in both iv and varsity games quarter rule could play two quarters of a lv game and afterwards play three quarters of a varsity game Although some players didnt like it the new rule helped others Sophomore lv varsi ty player Cher Kemper noted l like he rule a lot lt relaxed me before and after varsity games Mixed feelings about the rule existed but the rule did serve its main purpose lt enable non-starting varsity players to get more playing time and experience. The freshman girls' basketball team fin- ished their season with a 7,7 record. They practiced on strengthening their offensive strategy and consistently strong defense, The girls enjoyed their first year of high school play. Freshman player Lexie Norton revealed, lt was a very rewarding exper- ience. We learned from our coach and each other, JV !Frosh Girls' Basketball f 137
