M ettes take fifth place Problems fhis season happened wirh miles long hours of pracrice and dance comperirions were all parr of rhe M erres' season Bur long before all of rhese acriviries fools place, rhe M-efres were worlsing hard. While rhe resr of Marshalls srudenr body was enjoying rhe summer sunshine, rhe dance ream was worising hard on fund raisers such as rhe Fred Meyer invenrory, hordog sales sponsored by Aiberrsons and car washes. Pracrices srarred in lare July wirh rhe girls' walsing early and praciicing for rwo and a half hours every Monday morning These weelsly pracrices continued unril Augusr To when daily doubles began The M-erres were honored wirh sponsor ing rhe PIL Dance Festival which was rhe firsi for Marshall The fesrivai was held Novem ber 18 and rhe evening was filled wirh splirs and lsiclss Alrhough rhis was a non place menr evenr, rhe reams rhar parricipared performed fo dances such as rhe Charlesron and boogied ro rhe music of rhe Go Gos Awards were given ro Wilson, Cleveland and Crranr Drill Down awards were placed in rhe hands of rhe Cleveland ieam and an individual Franlslin dancer ream members guirfing, which made ir hard for rhe girls ro lseep ir all rogerher, Bur as MYQTTG Advisor Sue Kennedy commenr ed, The girls who were involved cared nor only abour fhemselves bur each brherf' Even afier losing half rheir feam during rhe course of rhe year, rhe Merres fools second place OT rhe ciry DancefDrill in small division Wirh rrophy in hands, experience in mind and dererminarion in hearrs, rhe girls head ed for rhe srare championship ar David Douglas High School March io ln rhe small division Marshalls caregory, rhere were 12 reams This was rhe roughesr division be- cause ir consisfed of rhe mosr comperirors frying for rhe rap five spors.
