The sophomore divisionalso did extremely well this season with a record of two first places and two second places. They obtained a first place in City meet at Wilson High School. Two sophomore varsity members placed very well in the State Meet at Willamette University this year. They were Tom Taylor, who placed 22nd, and Steve Squires, who placed 59th. The varsity will have much exper- ience for the years to come. Cross Countryteams h ve been di vided into four classes, varsity, jun- iors, sophomores, and freshmen. The Junior Class has a division of the varsity and I.V. teams. lThe junior division has some boys that lshould also be recognized: Gary Hunt, eith Palmer, Randy Woodruff and Fred oung. The junior division received a third place in the City Meet at Wilson igh School. They receiv- ed a second place in the City Meet at Wilson High on October 30, losing ' only to Grant. In the State Meet at Willamette University in Salem on November 7, Marshall obtained a third place, which is the highest finish ever received in state-competition. Louie Fugere, Dave Hoard, Greg Woodruffand Dan johnson, all seniors, were instrumental inthis season's fin- ish. The Cross Country varsity tooka big step with the help of eight returning lettermen and four up and coming puddle jumpers, Tom Taylor, Steve Squires, Doug Cook, sophomores, Keith Palmel, and Randy Woodruff, juniors. Their dream came true when the Marshall Thin Clads obtained a sec- ond place in the P,I, L, and the highest state fin- ish ever received by Marshall, a third place. Randy Woodruff, junior, was an important part of the junior di- vision this season, placing 13 in the state meet. N
