It wasn't until their sixth game and their loss to Wilson that they were removed from the top-ten rank- ings. The highlight of the season came with the Marshall-Grant game. I, L, champions until Grant de- stroyed the M- Men's hopes by fourth quarter touchdowns. The Minutemen rounded out a five win and three loss record including an untimely loss to the Madison Senators. Marshall was ladden with out- standing talent, foremost being Bob Kelley, senior, who made All-State honors and was voted most valuable player in the P, I, L, Others sharing grid-iron honors were: Neil Melvin, Lloyd Beil, Ken Sato, Steve Donald- son and Barry Moore, all seniors, Coach Everett ended his fifth coaching season and Coach Smethurst his fourth coaching season at Mar- shall with the best record ever attain- ed by the Marshall football squad.
