Tuesday the fall Girls' Lea- gue officers were in- stalled. The annual Big-Little sister tea was presented on Wednesday. The program included a fashion show and refreshments were served. Iohn Marshall's birthday , September 24, was celebrated on October 2 when the executive cabinet sponsored Citizenship Day. George Van Hoomissen, Multnomah County District Attorney, spoke to the student body on leadership qualities and the heritage left to us by Iohn Marshall A speech was then given by Iim Losk, U. M. M. President, on the character of Iohn Marshall. ' The band entertained the student body with a few numbers and Mr. Wilson led the choir . The executive cabinet also sponsored an all-school dress-up day on this date to establish the right mood for the stud- ! X efltS. Gnzensgip .Day Honored 50611 Iflarsffaiff Chief Justice Iohn Marshall represents the courage evi - denced by both the man and the school to achieve pro- gress through fundamental change. The scales of justice repre- sent the balanced responsi- bility for learning between the student and teacher. The stars represent the close cooperation which has de- veloped among the student body, faculty and community. The Minuteman represents the alert and vigorous spirit of the student body. The geometric design sym- bolizes the modular flexible schedule pioneered by Iohn Marshall High School. The state is represented by its flower, the Oregon grape. The Saturnia rose - the offi- cial Marshall flower - repre- sents the city of Portland. Mr. George Van Hoomissen. District Attomey speaks at the John Marshall Day assembly.
