Marshall's 1975 golf team, under the direction of Coach Ed Posey, ended an outstanding year of competition with a fourth place finish in the Regionals at Corpus Christi, and second place in the 31-AAAA championship tournament. Team members Gregg Munn, Richard Volding, Rick Mangum, Robert Fidone, and Terry Powell had the Rams in the District lead but the Lee Vols tied the match and proceeded to win the sudden death playoff for the title. Other outstanding showings included first place in the Hondo Tournamentg first place in the South Texas High School Tournament with Gregg Munn overall medalistg and second at the Brady Invitational, as Rick Mangum captured medalist honors. The Rams also took second place in both the Northeast Tour- nament of Champions and the Junior Golf Association of South Texas Tour- nament. Tankers Led by Rudwick John Marshall swimming received nation- al attention in 1975 as Sophomore Laura Rudwick, two-time All-American swimmer for the Rams, broke one national record, and two state swimming records during the year. At the state U.I.L. meet in Austin on March 21 and 22, Rudwick set the new national record in the 50 yard free style with a time of 24.1 seconds, and then broke the state mark in the 100 yard free style with a time of 52.7 seconds. These achievements were responsible for Laura receiving the Jack Bialas Award as Texas' most outstanding girl swimmer. Other members of the Ram Swim Team also won places at various meets through- out the season, including the Northeast Invitational and the Alamo Heights In- vitational.
