Marshall baseball achieved its greatest suc- cess since the Rams co-championship of 1972, as Coach Shane Le Sturgeon's team finished tied for second in district play and ranked fourth in the final city baseball standings. Ending the year with a fantastic l7-7 record, Marshall proved many times they were one of the top teams in San Antonio. Led by all-district and all-city pitcher Bob Hueck, and all-district performers Schott Tarr at second base, Terry Salazar at third base and outfielder Perry Nelson, the Rams stayed in the thick of the 31-AAAA race throughout the entire season. It was a continual battle between Marshall, Churchill, Jay and the eventual champs, Lee. The Rams, who fin- ished just one game behind the Vols, whipped the champs twice by 8-2 and 8-3 scores. Finishing 10-4 in league play, Marshall suf- fered three losses by identical 2-l scores. As the season began, Marshall was picked to be a serious challenger for the district title. After losing a double-header on opening day, the Rams proceeded to win seven of their next eight pre-district games to support that prediction. .rt -.qu-.
