CHEERLEADERS Top Row: Rosie Stevens, Linda Margason, Barb Chittero Front Row: Rita Radtke, Barb Nagy, Carol Churney, Renee Belfor, Carol Stelzl The cheerleaders are divided into two squads, the var- sity, and the B squad. There are eight girls in the var- sity, and five in the B squad. Both groups practice every Wednesday after school in the girls' gym. Through- out the year, the girls work hard promoting school spirit at football and basketball games. Tryouts are held in spring and last for about a month. During this time the girls learn the basic motions of cheerleading and polish their performances. The squad is open to any girl who is a sophomore or older. The top eight girls are chosen. Mrs. Shultis, cheerleading advisor, instructs Rita Radtke on the proper way of doing a split. Leading Marshall fans, Carol Churney cheers her team on. ' l l

The team in its lirst varsity season played King, Custer, Bay View, Wash- ington, East, North, Lincoln, Juneau, Boy's Tech, West, South, and Pulaski. Last year the team had a fair season and the boys learned quite a lot, remarked Mr. Sohn when asked for a comment. Dave Heber who is now a junior Hnished second in the City Freshman-Sophomore Singles Tourna- ment. Tom Wilson and jeff Holub had a successful sea- son in the double event last year. This season Mr. Sohn expects an upper division finish. The same boys will be back and with the addition of sev- eral new boys the team should have a very good year.
