The boys are more seasoned and have more confidence. Many of the boys have shown improve- ment over last year. Participating in track this season were 103 boys. Dave Nicholson, Mike Stern, and Terry Nitka show promise in the sprints. The hurdle team is strong with Bill Venski and Lee Kotke running the high hurdles and Joe Palicki and Rod Sciborski in the lows. The distance picture seems especially bright with john Seebert, Marshall's only track letterman, and Jim Kexel in the mile. Freshmen Rodrick Holloway and Doug Krueger also show promise. Running the 880 are Steve Moldenhauer and Bob Graves. Dick Schultz, Keith Shep- ard, and Don Nunemaker ran the 440. Practice began early this year, for a few of the boys. Several distance runners began training outside as early as February 6. The sprinters practiced starts and baton passes in the halls. Early this season, four boys, Dave Nicholson, Dave Ovshak, Mike Stern, and Gary Duval, participated in the Journal relays. Finishing second in the preliminary heat with a time of 1:12, they failed to qualify for the iinals in the evening. 174 41
